Production
The metal ‘Birds of Zimbabwe’ are made by Birdwoods, an enterprise that was founded by Louise Stobart in 1991. Louise Stobart was born and bred in Zimbabwe and is a talented artist. In 2004 the Birdwoods’ workshop moved to the Domboshawa hills near Harare.
Workshop
The new workshop is like a second home for the people who make our birds (see ‘the makers’). A great number of people living in the surrounding area find a livelihood there, a ray of hope in their difficult circumstances. Many of them suffer from HIV, but thanks to healthy meals, vitamins and better life circumstances, they are able to make the best of things and are able to take care of their families. They are also given advice about the dangers and risks of HIV.
